A day in Vienna City in Late November

I am an impulsive person. I like to act on my impulses more often than not. After living in Europe for a few years, the Christmas frenzy is finally catching up with me. So on an impulse, I decided to visit Austria to usher in the festive season. On this article, I’m going to share with you my itinerary of how I spent a perfect day in Vienna city centre by myself. Keep reading this article to plan your perfect day in the city of Vienna.

1. Visit the Belvedere Palace:

If you’re obsessed with art and culture, no better way to kick your trip in Vienna than by paying a visit to Belvedere Palace in the downtown Vienna. I am an art geek and for me to see paintings of Klimt, Monet and the likes from a distance of half a foot was nothing more than a treat. The total tour of Belvedere would take up about 3 hours and entry fee to the Lower and Upper Palace costs €25.

2. Grab a hotdog, and a beer, obviously.

All the walking in the sprawling acres of magnificent Belvedere would surely give you an appetite. Run to a hotdog store in the city and order yourself a nice, tasty bratwurst. Wash down the hotdog with a small pint of beer. Best part, it won’t pinch your pocket. The meal costs just €8.

3. Pay a visit to St. Peter’s Cathedral

If you have energy left after all the walking and eating, walk around the city centre of Vienna to visit the St. Peter’s Cathedral. The gothic architecture of the church is definitely something not to be missed. Be careful of a flurry of tourists in this area as it is usually packed with people most of the times. The cathedral is also conveniently located around all the shops so you can get some shopping done on your way back.

4. Have yourself a Merry little glass of mulled wine

I mean, is it even Christmas without Mulled Wine? Once you have done your shopping, stop by to have a hot glass of mulled wine from one of the shops in front of the cathedral. You’ll not regret sipping on your cup while watching people from all across the world pass you by. A glass of mulled wine will cost €4.

5. Eat your heart out at Cafe Central

Finally after the long day of exploring the heart of Vienna, head over to Cafe Central, a cafe established in 1876 which once attracted a crowd of historical figures such as Adler, Freud, Stalin, and even Hitler. If history is not your thing, then visit the place for their amazing selection of desserts. I am a traditionalist so I ordered myself a Viennese Goulash and a Viennese Chocolate Cake. The meal costed me about €25 and it was worth every penny.

I was guided by my friends and acquaintances to go around Vienna by myself and have a great time. Through this article, I’m trying to do the same for all you solo travellers out there!
